DEBUTING project

Adopt a more inclusive culture by developing new gender-inclusive business models, to improve business performance

Interreg Europe Debuting

Inequalities can result in a loss of attractiveness and competitiveness for regions and entire industries. More than 70% of companies in the European Union (EU) declare access to talent as an obstacle to new investment. The availability of qualified personnel and skilled executive staff remains the biggest issue that a quarter of SMEs have to face in the EU.
Inequalities are an obstacle to finding qualified employees and can hinder growth and competitiveness for small and medium-sized companies. This is partly due to a lack of inclusive business models and a gender-friendly work culture. It is crucial for innovators and companies to reduce inequalities in industry and make use of all the available talent and approaches.
Debuting, as its name suggests, kicks off a new topic to address in the European Union: gender equality as a competitiveness factor for SMEs. The topic is addressed in a new way, via clusters or company support structures.

Project goals

Overall goal

Debuting involves 11 partners and 10 European regions.
Debuting aims to improve ten policy instruments to better address gender equality in industry, helping at least 10% of clustered SMEs become more competitive by 2026.

Specific goals

We want to increase the business capacities of SMEs by enabling them to develop more innovative business models through a more inclusive culture.

  • Raise awareness via clusters on the potential in adopting gender equality approaches.
  • Increase the efficiency of existing measures, design new, more innovative ones, and improve monitoring and evaluation with adequate indicators.
  • Increase the awareness and capacity of policy makers and clusters to address gender equality in industry as a critical factor for SMEs to grow and become more competitive.
